Housing and dining charges are determined by other departments. The student can find specifics in their agreement in the housing portal. Housing can be reached at housing@smu.edu and Dining at dining@smu.edu. Both departments are alerted by SSR or SST when withdrawing or planning a leave of absence. However, it’s recommended that the student notify them separately via e-mail once a decision has been made, as well.
Every student’s case is unique and our policy prevents us from providing figures or estimates on loans and financial aid in the case of leave/withdrawal/cancellation. There too many factors and parties involved - in the case of federal financial aid, the government - to provide accurate information ahead of an official decision.

For specific information about how withdrawal/cancellation affects federal loans (considered Title IV funds), please visit the financial aid website.
Once a student’s request for leave/withdrawal has been submitted with Student Success and Retention (SSR) or the Student Support Team (SST), financial aid would be able to initiate the necessary arrangements for a potential fund return to the lender, work with the academic school and Registrar’s Office on tuition charges, and process any adjustments based on the effective date (when the student submitted the request through SSR or when SST approved a medical withdrawal). Due to how many factors are considered and departments are involved, it can take around 15-30 days for everything to be completed.
