Research Overview

My research is focused on quantifying how life is bounded by energy and time on Earth and beyond. I combine computational modeling, theory development, fieldwork, laboratory analysis, microbial cultivation and molecular biology to better understand the limits to life and how microorganisms impact their surroundings.

Research Areas

Geochemistry
Astrobiology
Environmental Microbiology
Organic matter
Bioenergetics
Thermodynamics
Carbon cycling
Hydrothermal systems
